Five New SVHCs Added to the Candidate List

Today, 17th December 2015, five new Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs) have been added to the Candidate List, bringing the total to 168 substances.

The legal obligations that companies have resulting from the inclusion of substances in the Candidate List may apply to the listed substances on their own, in mixtures or in articles. Producers and importers of articles (containing any of the five substances included in the Candidate List on 17th December 2015) have six months to notify ECHA if the SVHC is present in articles, in amounts that total more than one tonne per producer or importer per year, and above a concentration of 0.1% weight by weight. There are exemptions from the notification obligation if the substance is already registered for the use of when exposure can be excluded.

Substances added to the Candidate List on 17.12.2015:

  1. 1,3-propanesultone (CAS 1120-71-4)
  2. 2,4-di-tert-butyl-6-(5-chlorobenzotriazol-2-yl)phenol (UV-327) (CAS 3864-99-1)
  3. 2-(2H-benzotriazol-2-yl)-4-(tert-butyl)-6-(sec-butyl)phenol (UV-350) (CAS 36437-37-3)
  4. Nitrobenzene (CAS 98-95-3)
  5. Perfluorononan-1-oic-acid and its sodium and ammonium salts (CAS 375-95-1; 21049-39-8; 4149-60-4)
